Kitchen Cabinet Knobs

I’ve been slowly making over my kitchen.  I painted my boring light oak cabinets when we first moved in about 6 years ago.  While I like the clean look of my white cabinets I'm having a hard time keeping the doors and drawers that are used the most free of scratches.

I decided to add knobs and handles.  Since my sink and faucet is brushed nickel I chose the same color for the knobs.

Out with the brass!

I hate brass!  I’ve slowly been painting all the door knobs in my house with oil rubbed bronze spray paint.  I won’t take the time to post a tutorial because they’re all over pinterest but I will show you some before and after pictures.

Merry Christmas!

Hope everyone is having a great holiday.  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Rudolphs!

The Polar Express!

So I saw these cute printables online for the golden ticket that’s in the Polar Express movie.  She used them as tickets to go see Christmas lights.  What a great idea to make the tradition of looking at lights more memorable.

We bought the movie, The Polar Express and watched it the night before.

Then I printed and laminated the Christmas Express tickets.  I also made hot chocolate like in the movie

Elf on a Shelf ~ Magic Door

Elf on a Shelf Door {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
We’ve been having fun with our Elf on a Shelf this year.  Our elf is named Jingles.  This year I added a skirt and Belle, his sister, came to visit a few times as well.  I won’t bore you with their antics as there are ideas all over Pinterest and I’ve been “borrowing” from most of them.  You can check out my Elf on a Shelf Pinterest board to see them.

Real Homemade Fudge ~ YUMMY!

I’ve been working on my holiday baking these last few days.  I LOVE real fudge made with a candy thermometer but I’ve always struggled with it.  I finally decided I was going to figure it out.  Turns out if you take your time and actually follow the directions ~ word for word ~ it’s awesome!  So excited.

Santa Shirt Tutorial

Santa shirt tutorial {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
This is from a guest post I did with Sugar Bee Crafts last week.

For about three years now I have made shirts for my kids for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even a few Halloween and Easter.  Christmas is my favorite.  Our subdivision always hires a Santa and a horse drawn sleigh to drive the kids around the neighborhood.  I love getting a photo for our Christmas Cards at the same time.

Perpetual Calendar Blocks–Craft Club

Remember my kitchen desk makeover here?
This is what my calendar blocks used to look like  (not the best picture but it’s the only one I have – I forgot to take more before I redid them)

However, I’m currently redoing my kitchen and they no longer match.  Easy fix . . . . just a little time consuming.  I bought coordinating paper, printed new months and days of the week, and used my Cameo to cut new numbers.  Now my calendar blocks look like this . . . .

I don’t want to show my whole kitchen yet because I still have a few more finishing touches but here’s a sneak peak of the message center wall above my kitchen desk

Would love your vote!

If you saw my Halloween post my kids were Batman and Batgirl for Halloween.  I also modified their cozy coupe to make it into a Batmobile.  My son loved it and drove it all evening for trick-or-treating!

I entered them in a contest and would love your vote.  You can go here to vote or click on the picture on my sidebar.  There are several prizes from a $250 Quik Trip gift card to Magic House tickets.  Thanks!

Welcome Post–Craft club

My craft club met again in Sept.  This time we built these awesome Welcome Posts (that’ I’ve had pinned for over a year!).  This tutorial was our inspiration.

Using freecycled wood and other scraps we were able to keep the cost down.  Each post was around $4 to create.

Halloween Costume ~ Bat Wings!

I usually try to get my kids to match their costumes.  They’re starting to fight me on this so it might be my last year Sad smile

Remember this Batmobile?

My son wants to be Batman and he wants to drive his Batmobile.  I painted his red and yellow Cozy Coupe to transform it into a Batmobile.  I’m guessing he’ll get tired of getting in and out of it but he may use it for a block or two.  You can see the full tutorial here.

Halloween Front Door

I usually just throw a decoration on a hook on my front door and call it a day but this year I went all out.  I saw this door and loved it.

I recreated it using the following . . . .
1.  Grapevine wreath from Target dollar spot
2.  Black feather boa from Hobby Lobby
3.  Halloween shapes downloaded from Silhouette and cut using my Cameo

Bottom Freezer Organization

Bottom Freezer Organization Before and After {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
Since my fridge looks so good now (see the tutorial here) I thought I should organize my freezer.
I’ve had a hard time with this one.  I LOVE my bottom freezer but it is very hard to keep organized.  It’s basically a bottomless pit.  Stuff always gets lost at the bottom.

Refrigerator Organization

Cleaning out my fridge was loooong overdue.  We spilled some things a while ago and I think we were each waiting for the other one to clean it out.  My husband won.  I couldn’t stand it anymore.  I needed to pull everything out to clean the shelves and bins properly so I thought it would be a great time to organize it better.  We recently bought a french door bottom freezer fridge and it has a ton of space  . . . . almost too much . . . . we tend to keep more than we should . . . .

Not too bad but I have too many little things that get shoved to the back and lost.  Since I’m short it’s hard for me to get things on top or in the back.  I started by pulling everything out.

Kids Bathroom Update – Part 1

The duck theme started from this one wooden doorstop.

I used to teach and this was in my classroom.  A teacher on my team stole it and then held it for ransom.  He would periodically send me notes and even pictures.  Even my students got in on it and took it on trips with them.  It was actually very entertaining.  I finally got it back at Christmas at our faculty party at a roast.  So much fun!  For the rest of the year my kids would bring in stuffed animal ducks, put duck stickers all over my room, and even gave me some duck pj pants for Christmas.  I actually still have them!

Halloween BOO!

 My craft club made these photo stands last Christmas.  We originally made them to say JOY on burlap.  You can click here to see the full tutorial.
Christmas JOY {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
I decided to redo them for Halloween.  I used my Cameo to cut out B*O*O letters, glued them onto other cardstock, and clipped them to the stands.  I also tied on some ribbon in Halloween colors.
Halloween B-O-O {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}     Halloween BOO {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
The black stands are perfect for Halloween.  I think I like the Halloween version better than the Christmas one.  Now I just need to come up with a trio of something for Thanksgiving or Fall.

Coffee Table Quote

Last summer I refinished my coffee table.  It was originally a cheap pine table that my sister was getting rid of.  I painted the legs white and the top with chalkboard paint.  After several years I was tired of that so I sanded the top to bare wood again and stained it.  You can see the full tutorial here.

Organization for Electronics

We’ve had U-verse for a while now and we’ve just kept the modem and gateway on the floor behind the couch were it goes into the wall. Not exactly convenient but not a big deal unless we need to reset it.
When I need to reset the U-Verse box I have to practically stand on my head to get behind the table or pull everything out of the way.  Big pain.  Not to mention the dust bunnies back there.  OMG!!!!  And the cords were out of control!

Recently we replaced our home phone with Ooma. Our phone bill went from $30+ to less than $5 a month . . . . but the best part is our phone service didn’t change at all. We still have call waiting and caller ID. We actually even have long distance calling included now. I highly recommend it. We got ours from Costco (I’m not affiliated with them . . . . this is just my opinion). The only downside is we have to put the Ooma box somewhere. It’s in the same area as the U-Verse but it has to sit on the end table as it’s also our answering machine so I have to be able to see it.

Fire Starters

I remember making these when I was in Girl Scouts a loooong time ago.  We called them candle kisses.  I’ve been making them for the past couple of winters to start fires in our fireplace and in the backyard in our firepit. They work great and I don’t have to use any lighter fluid.

Balloon Animals

My subdivision had it’s annual block party this past weekend.  The trustees have tried several things for the kids over the years.  They started with a petting zoo (not my favorite – something about petting animals and then eating didn’t agree with me).  After a few years they switched to a Bounce House.  Getting better.  This year they had a balloon artist.  He was AWESOME!  He was fabulous with the kids and we just couldn’t stump him.  He made anything a kid asked for . . . . .  an Octopus, an elephant balancing on a ball, a dolphin, a mermaid, Spiderman, an Alien who hitchhiked on your shoulders . . . . He was amazing and would be great for a birthday party!!

Home Depot Workshops

My kids love the clinics at Home Depot.  They actually started going last summer.  Even though my son is technically too young they have always let him participate and he has the best time.  He has learned to read the instructions himself and even do a lot of the hammering on his own.  We recently went to the Lorax sponsored workshop where they got to build a bulletin board.
Home Depot Clinic - Bulletin Board {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}          Home Depot Clinic - Bulletin Board 2 {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
We start by laying out all the pieces and unfolding the directions.  Then they each pick out the pieces they need first.  My daughter is pretty independent at this point but I still need to get the nails started for my son.  (They also provide you with an apron – which we always forget to bring with us – and safety glasses – which we should be wearing).  Then we split up.  One of us works with each kid.
Home Depot Clinic - Bulletin Board 4 {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}          Home Depot Clinic - Bulletin Board 5 {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
My daughter loves the pink tools.  I guess they do that so you don’t steal them.  When we first started going they had kid size hammers and you go to keep the first one.  We added ours to my kids tool boxes.  You can see the post about those here.  And before you know it . . . . a finished project to take home . . . .
Home Depot Clinic - Bulletin Board 6 {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}         Home Depot Clinic - Bulletin Board 7 {A Sprinkle of This . . . . A Dash of That}
We also made a football game on a different day.  They got to use screws for this one which was different as most projects use nails.  It also can with a printed sheet that can be folded into a triangular football so they can actually try to flick it through the goal posts they made.

If you haven’t checked out these clinics yet I highly recommend them – even if you think your kids are too young.  The projects are pretty simple.

Organizing Scrapbook Embellishments

Scrapbook Embellishment Storage Before and After A Sprinkle of This. . . . A Dash of That}
This is the best organizer I’ve ever had for all those small embellishments like brads and eyelets.  I first got one years ago at a garage sale for a couple dollars.  I was so excited to see another one in Michael’s when I was shopping for my kids vacation snack containers.  However, I wasn’t ready to spend $12 on one when I got the first one for so cheap.  I was finally able to get one for half off.  Still more than my garage sale purchase but not bad.

Bathroom Vanity Makeover

I don’t like stock cabinetry.  However, replacing my large master bath vanity isn’t in the budget.
master bath vanity before          master bath vanity before 2
I thought about staining it darker but I didn’t think that would go with the rest of the room.  I decided to take the doors off, sand everything, and paint it all white.
